Concert. Dunije

Concert. Dunije
Critics are already calling "Dunije" an ethno-supergroup—and for good reason. Three voices, three women, and 14 traditional Croatian folk songs exploring the female experience through the centuries form the framework for the compelling narrative of this new album by Dunja Knebl, Nina Romić, and Jelena Galić. Although some of the songs are centuries old, their universal and timeless quality allows them to tell stories that unfolded long ago—yet remain just as relevant today. Regardless of the possibility of choosing a different, perhaps better life, certain patterns have repeated themselves throughout human history. While the struggle for women’s rights has always taken many different forms, brute force all too often still prevails. Yet, there is always hope—and, indeed, there are songs in which love emerges as the most powerful force of all. The songs were arranged based on musical scores and lyrics found in collections of traditional Croatian folk music. As these specific pieces had not been recorded previously, they represent a part of our forgotten—or nearly forgotten—heritage, rarely heard today. Their debut album, "Bilo je sada" ("It Was Now"), was recorded in the summer of 2024 at Studio Nasip with producer Silvio Bočić, who has also collaborated with artists such as Darko Rundek, Toni Starešinić, Maja Posavec, and Nina Romić.
