Following its first comprehensive renovation in more than 120 years, will reopen on Wednesday, September 16, with a special program beginning at 6 p.m. The City of Dubrovnik invites residents to join an evening of music, entertainment and socializing in the renovated city park.
From 6 p.m., visitors will be treated to performances by TRIKO Circus Theatre, while the official opening of the park will take place at 7:30 p.m. The evening will then continue with a musical program featuring performances by young Dubrovnik bands Bakula and New Noise. These young rock musicians create and perform throughout the year under the auspices of the Dubrovnik Center for Children, Youth and Family, with mentoring support from the Podroom TUP Association. They have already performed at numerous venues in Dubrovnik and made international appearances as part of cooperation programs with sister cities. For the opening of Gradac Park, they have prepared a repertoire of rock classics spanning from the 1970s to the present day.
The opening will provide an opportunity to explore the renovated Gradac Park and discover the facilities that will be available to visitors. The park has been restored while preserving its cultural and historical significance and its green character, and has been designed as a space for walking, relaxation, socializing and various outdoor activities.
In addition to renovated and newly built walking paths, new public lighting and street furniture have been installed, and the children's playground has been refurbished. In the northern part of the park, there is a small outdoor auditorium for gatherings and activities. A new pedestrian path also runs through a previously unused section of Gradac. New facilities include an accessible restroom adapted for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, a new fire hydrant network, and an irrigation system.
A significant part of the renovation focused on preserving and enhancing the park's greenery. A total of 439 existing trees have been preserved, while 401 new trees have been planted, representing more than 30 different species. In addition, more than 13,000 other plants have been added, including perennials, ornamental plants and various other plantings.
The total value of the comprehensive renovation of Gradac Park amounts to €4,414,625 including VAT. The project is part of the Green Infrastructure Network, which also includes Pile Park and Platana Park, and is co-financed through non-refundable funding under the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITU) mechanism. A total of €5,558,382 in non-refundable funding has been allocated for green infrastructure projects.
