Lumiart Illuminates Sponza Once Again – Two Months Until the Dubrovnik Festival of Light 2026

The Dubrovnik Tourist Board, in cooperation with Pixel Design and with the support of the City of Dubrovnik, announces an audiovisual event taking place this Saturday, August 29, from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM in front of Sponza Palace. This will be the second public presentation of the summer in the lead-up to this year’s edition of the Lumiart Festival of Light Dubrovnik, taking place from October 23 to 25, 2026.

Following the successful June event, which attracted a large number of visitors to Stradun and generated significant attention through photographs and video content shared on social media and in the media, Lumiart is returning to Sponza Palace. This time, less than two months before the festival begins, audiences will get a glimpse of the atmosphere awaiting Dubrovnik at the end of October. Once again, Sponza Palace will become a setting for the magic of light, projections, animation and electronic music, with Pixel Design responsible for the production of the audiovisual programme. The historic architecture will serve as both a canvas and a backdrop for contemporary visual content, creating another exciting encounter with Lumiart in the heart of Dubrovnik’s historic city centre.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the death of Marin Getaldić, one of Dubrovnik’s most prominent scientists, mathematicians and physicists. His work in the fields of optics, geometry, mirrors and the study of light provides the starting point for this year’s creative concept, which will bring together Dubrovnik’s scientific and cultural heritage with contemporary art and new technologies. Elements inspired by light, optical phenomena and visual illusions will form part of the artistic direction that audiences will be able to experience in October.

The August 29 event also marks the beginning of the final countdown to the sixth edition of Lumiart, when Dubrovnik will once again become a large-scale stage for light art over three festival evenings. The festival programme will feature 3D mapping projections, light installations, audiovisual works by Croatian and international artists, and content connecting art, technology, science and Dubrovnik’s heritage. The Saturday event in front of Sponza is conceived as a kind of “Lumiart teaser” – a brief glimpse of what awaits Dubrovnik in October, as well as an invitation to local audiences and visitors to experience the end of summer in a different way, surrounded by one of Dubrovnik’s most iconic landmarks.

The Lumiart Festival of Light Dubrovnik 2026 will take place from October 23 to 25, 2026. A public call offering a total prize fund of EUR 4,000 is already open to all interested audiovisual artists.
