The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik was founded in 1945. The building of the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik was originally designed and constructed (from 1935 to 1939) as a residential-representative palace for Dubrovnik ship owner Božo Banac, and in 1948 it was converted into an exhibition space and museum.
It was designed by renowned Croatian architects Lavoslav Horvat and Harold Bilinić in a neo-Renaissance Gothic style, inspired by masterpieces of Dubrovnik’s urban and rural Renaissance architecture (such as the Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace, Sorkčović Summer Residence, etc.).
Through its intensive exhibition activities, educational workshops, guided tours, and lectures, the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik serves as a lively space for interaction between artists and a diverse public. It is a place where visitors can explore the work of both modern art classics and numerous contemporary artists.
By the decision of the City of Dubrovnik, in 2005 the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik was granted the use of the Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery at Držićeva Poljana 1 in Dubrovnik, and in 2008 the Pulitika Atelier at St. John Fortress, Dubrovnik.
