Dubrovnik, known for its rich history and spectacular locations, hides an entirely unexpected place that can become the perfect setting for unusual incentive programs or exclusive events. This is the Red History Museum, a space that offers a unique experience through the story of socialism in Croatia and Dubrovnik.
Founded in 2019, this museum is the first and only of its kind in Croatia. It is located in the industrial zone of Gruž, within the old Carbon Graphite Products Factory – TUP, which was established in 1953 at the peak of the country’s socialist industrialization. The authentic factory setting enhances the experience, while the museum's exhibition takes visitors through key moments from the founding of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1919, the establishment of socialism, the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the declaration of Croatian independence in 1991.
The Red History Museum is one of 26 museums in Dubrovnik and was rated the best museum in Croatia in 2019 by visitors on TripAdvisor. It offers a comprehensive, innovative, and interactive insight into everyday life under the experimental socialist regime. The exhibition is divided into three segments: socialism in theory, socialism in practice (including its darker side), and socialism in memory, featuring a tunnel that leads visitors through personal stories told via exhibits donated from across Croatia.
History as a Backdrop for Unforgettable Corporate Events
Due to the museum’s size, group visits are limited to 25 people, with guided tours conducted using a microphone and headphones. The exhibition is designed to be self-explored without a guide, encouraging an individual approach. For a more immersive experience, a personalized guided tour with the museum curator, without microphones and headphones, can be arranged in the morning hours (08:00 – 10:00) for an additional fee and prior booking. This option provides a deeper understanding of the exhibits and the historical context, making it a unique team-building opportunity for incentive groups or corporate guests. Through discussions with the curator, participants can engage in fascinating debates and connect through the exploration of the region’s complex history.
A special attraction of the museum is the possibility of renting the space for events outside regular working hours. Whether you are planning a themed party, corporate gathering, or informal get-together, the industrial ambiance and intriguing historical backdrop create a unique atmosphere. Rental prices depend on the duration and specific event requirements, and the space can be adapted to various event formats.
For organizers looking to offer an extraordinary experience, the Red History Museum presents an exceptional opportunity to create unforgettable moments. With yet another hidden gem, Dubrovnik continues to impress with its diversity and creative potential in the MICE sector.
