Continuation of intensive promotion on the American market From November 28 to December 2, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board participated in the annual USTOA Conference and Marketplace conference in the American city of Austin, Texas. This occasion marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of this professional association. The USTOA conference has profiled itself as the only professional meeting of its kind that brings together leading tourism companies from North America and representatives of destinations and agencies from all over the world.
More than 900 participants from more than 80 countries took part in the conference and business workshop. In addition to the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, the Croatian tourist offer was presented by: the representative office of the Croatian Tourist Board in the USA, the Zagreb Tourist Board and the travel agencies Adriatic DMC, Katarina line and Supertours.
At the conference itself, many current topics in the world tourism industry were highlighted, from economic analyses and market conditions to sustainability and new trends in tourism. As part of the conference, there was also a business B2B workshop with pre-arranged meetings and The Destination for Destinations Forum, where specially organized panels with tour operators, airlines and travel agents were held.
The Director of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board Miro Drašković and Romana Vlašić, head of the Convention Bureau and Development of Foreign Markets, at the business B2B workshop, held about thirty meetings with leading tour operators such as Tauck, Collette, The Travel Corporation USA; Delta, American Airlines, Air Canada and United Airlines; representatives of Virtuos and tourism media companies such as Smithsonian Media.
In the first 11 months of this year, 125,193 American tourists stayed in Dubrovnik and 363,023 overnights were achieved. Since American tourists are constantly the second most numerous in Dubrovnik, and United Airlines connects Dubrovnik with the USA during the tourist season with direct flights to Newark four times a week, the USA market is extremely important for Dubrovnik and it is very important to maintain visibility and targeted promotion of Dubrovnik as a desirable tourist destination.
