In 1872, the Native Museum was established in Dubrovnik, and in mid-1873, the first museum exhibition was set up in the municipal building. Among the exhibits, mostly from the period of the Dubrovnik Republic, archaeological items stood out, such as an Egyptian mummy, Greek vases, and ancient amphorae. Donors included collectors, prominent members of noble families, sailors, and Dubrovnik natives around the world.
In 1941, the exhibits were stored in the ground floor of the Rupe granary, and the most beautiful examples of stone sculpture were later displayed in the same space. In the 1990s, it grew into the Archaeological Museum, part of the Dubrovnik Museums. The collection was significantly expanded during archaeological research and is divided into eight collections covering the period from the Early Neolithic to the second half of the 17th century, i.e., until the devastating earthquake of 1667.
In the ground floor of the Revelin Fortress, which was temporarily assigned for use, two exhibitions were set up: "Early Medieval Sculpture of the Archaeological Museum in Dubrovnik" and "Flower in Stone."
