Dubrovnik once again confirmed its position this summer as a destination where educational excellence, international collaboration and an inspiring setting come together to create a unique learning experience. The fifth edition of the FEB-UNIDU Summer Business Academy, a joint lifelong learning programme organised by the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, and the Faculty of Economics, University of Dubrovnik, took place from the 10th of June to the 10th of July 2026 in a hybrid format, combining online learning, independent study and a week of in-person classes in Dubrovnik. Delivered entirely in English, the programme once again brought together an international academic community and reinforced Dubrovnik's growing reputation as a destination for educational programmes, professional development and international academic gatherings.
The central part of the academy was held from the 28th of June to the 4th of July at the Faculty of Economics in Dubrovnik, where 118 participants and 29 professors took part in an intensive programme of workshops, lectures, seminars, guest presentations and team projects. The academy is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, doctoral candidates and professionals who wish to expand their knowledge beyond traditional study programmes while developing new skills in an international and interdisciplinary environment.
A Hybrid Learning Model Designed for Modern Professionals
The Summer Business Academy was created as a flexible programme that allows participants to shape their own educational journey. It is delivered in three stages: online preparation and independent study, an intensive week in Dubrovnik, and a final online phase featuring an individual project and final assignment.
The curriculum combined lectures, seminars, guest speakers and collaborative teamwork, while placing strong emphasis on independent research, critical thinking and the practical application of knowledge. The programme focused on four key thematic areas: Data Analytics and AI for Business, Emerging Innovations, Sustainability Challenges, and Personal Development. Across more than 20 workshops, participants explored subjects including artificial intelligence in business, data analytics, cybersecurity, sustainable development, neuro-marketing, digital finance, leadership, communication skills, cultural awareness and entrepreneurship.
The workshops were led by distinguished professors and industry experts from Croatia and abroad, giving participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and gain insight into a wide range of international perspectives on today's business challenges.
Dubrovnik as a Hub for International Connections
One of the programme's greatest strengths was its international dimension. Alongside the intensive academic schedule, participants experienced Dubrovnik through a carefully designed social programme that encouraged networking and the exchange of ideas.
Activities included a guided tour of the historic city, the popular Game of Thrones tour, the Red Ball Tour, an international evening, a pub quiz and a boat excursion to the island of Lopud. These informal events created opportunities for participants from different countries and professional backgrounds to connect, collaborate and build lasting relationships.
It is precisely this combination of high-quality education and authentic destination experiences that has made international summer schools and academies increasingly attractive to students and professionals alike. At the conclusion of the programme, participants received certificates of attendance and certificates for successfully completed workshops, with the possibility of transferring ECTS credits to their home institutions.
The fifth edition of the FEB-UNIDU Summer Business Academy once again demonstrated the importance of cooperation between academic institutions in creating additional educational opportunities, encouraging knowledge exchange and developing the skills needed for today's global business environment.
At the same time, it highlighted Dubrovnik's growing potential as a destination capable of meeting the increasing demand for events that combine education, international collaboration and an authentic experience of the host destination. As educational tourism continues to expand worldwide, initiatives such as the Summer Business Academy further strengthen Dubrovnik's reputation as not only a world-class tourist destination, but also an internationally recognised centre for learning, innovation and professional development.
