Public Lighting Switch-Off

The sixth edition of the LUMIART Festival of Light begins tomorrow, 16 October, organised by the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and Pixel Design, with the support of the City of Dubrovnik. The festival will take place every evening until 18 October. This year’s theme and inspiration is the 400th anniversary of the death of Marin Getaldić, one of Dubrovnik’s most prominent scientists, mathematicians and physicists.

Residents and visitors are hereby informed that public lighting will be switched off periodically in the area stretching from Pile Gate along the entire Stradun, as well as in front of Sponza Palace and the Rector’s Palace, and at Gundulić Square and Peskarija. The temporary switch-offs will begin this evening, 15 October, and continue until 18 October, between 6 pm and 11 pm.

LUMIART will once again transform the city into a grand stage for light art, welcoming numerous renowned audiovisual artists to the historic Old Town. Against the backdrop of Dubrovnik’s city walls, squares and palaces, their work will bring a touch of futurism to the city. Stradun, Sponza Palace and other locations will host a programme featuring numerous 3D mapping projections, light installations and audiovisual works.

As conventional public lighting will be partially switched off, visitors are advised to take extra care when moving around the city throughout the festival.
