The beginnings of natural history museum activities in Dubrovnik date back to 1872, when the Dubrovnik Native Museum (Museo Patrio) was founded. Alongside the collection of the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts, the foundation was based on the private natural history collection of pharmacist and ship owner Antun Dropac. The Natural History Museum Dubrovnik displays a portion of the museum’s collection that relates to the early establishment of the museum in the late 19th century, thus bringing to life the "natural history cabinet" from that period.
